It 'an exhibition of vintage bicycles used to carry out trades and businesses and, in fact, a slice of Italian history since the twenties and until the sixties.
The exhibition reveals in all its drama, stress, fatigue of everyday life at the time when the Italians began again to live by the sweat of their work, a decent life after the events of the difficult post-war period of the First and Second World War.
A warning to those who now think it is possible to always have everything at once, trying to avoid every effort and every sacrifice. The 70 bikes on display come from all over Italy, from north to south, signifying a perfect identity of the country.
To collect them was Luciano Pellegrini, Fabriano who had the opportunity to collect these beautiful specimens in years to collect, for trade, skins and scrap iron in farmhouses and villages of our country with a bicycle equipped with large baskets, back and forth.

Once upon a time ...Once upon a time the seller of toys. And the traveling cinema, the robust rack of items, the repairer of the copper brazier, the glazier and the ice cream vendor. With all its figurines, then, even the crib walking. All two-wheeled human-powered: the bicycle.
To "Crafts cycling" is dedicated to the exhibition at the Gallery of Arts in Fabriano. The bikes on display are an example of imagination and practicality in their modifications and adaptations. All according to the needs of the craftsman.
The exhibition is enriched with vintage photos in black and white and reconstructs the social and cultural environment in which the artisans and their bikes were moving.
In the first half of the twentieth century the bicycle was used to craftsmen such as blacksmiths, grinders, ice cream, etc.. to move to the area and do business directly "at home" or in the streets and squares of various towns and cities.
They were poor trades, the children of a poor world like the reality of the Italian countryside, where everyday objects were used and repaired up to a limit of wear and tear so it was impossible to reuse them, at least for the purpose for which they were born (but often were adapted for other uses, being born to a new life).
In the past the grinder often held their job moving with a sort of bicyclo-cart with a big wooden wheel, covered by a rim of iron, the cart, once you arrive at work, was literally turned on itself and turned into a business tool.
At the wheel was hooked a pedal with various joints, the transmission belt was fixed to the movement of the grinding wheel and of a protruding part of the cart, the grinder stared then a bucket with water dripping on the grinding wheel by means of a small tap dispenser, with functions of lubricant.
To sharpen a tool, the grinder wheel movement imparted to the well-paced and continuously and with deft hand gestures he passed by on the wheel until the blade became sharp.
In town and country cut their hair and beards made, especially during the holidays, when we wore the dress good.
Milkmen hawkers used to arrive in the early hours of the morning with their bicycles boobies which were placed two large aluminum vats full of fresh milk sold in the streets after having attracted the attention screaming "milky! LATTEE!.
the Seller of Chestnuts
Present at parties and on Sundays in the country, selling roasted chestnuts and peanuts, giving a bit 'of warmth in the cold and long winter days.
It is probably one of the few professions that have lasted.
Le chestnuts were sold in containers shaped funnel made with sheets of newspaper.
