OverviewBear Canyon is a fairly steep technical downhill in American Fork Canyon. It can be combined with other rides for more mileage. It makes a thrilling end to a longer ride.Trail DescriptionThis ride requires either a shuttle or a few miles of pavement followed by a couple of miles of Forest Service doubletrack.
The singletrack portion of the ride is a fun and challenging, highspeed downhill of about 2.5 miles (depending on route).
This trail isn't for any riders that are not very confident bike handlers on steep rocky terrain. It has several steep stretches with loose rocks that makes braking almost impossible, combined with sections of big embedded rocks that are too big to blast through and spaced so that they are hard to steer around. In short, lots of fun, but challenging.Getting ThereTravel up American Fork Canyon. If you are shuttling and intend to ride only Bear Canyon, leave a vehicle at Mutual Dell. If you don't intend to shuttle, I'd park at Mutual Dell and do the pavement first. In either case, you'll continue up the road to the Timpanooke turnoff. Go right here, and if you want to ride the double track, park in any available space and started pedalling. If you have a vehicle that can handle the rough double track, you can continue. Look for a marked trail on your right about 1.5 miles up the double track. You can begin here, or continue on for another half mile to a second trailhead on the right. The two trails merge so you'll end up in the same place. The upper trailhead offers more downhill fun. When to BikeThe trail is generally open from Late May through November.
