Castries is a little village in the south of France, in the departement of Hérault and region Languedoc Roussillon. Not exactly in the hilly "Montpellier Backcountry" but just on the foothils.
There are handfuls of marked trails in the "garrigue", the typical meridional bush of this region of southern France, made of spiny and odorant plants as well as rosemary, lavanda, thyme, etc. Here and there you cross some little stream or go along few of the numerous wineyards of the region.
I have kept no accurate trace of the way we followed, but more or less it consisted in following the long distance mountain-bike trail of the Hérault.
On the way back we followed a part of the well known aqueduc of Castries, buit in the 19th century.
