OverviewFor anyone of us who is not content to sunbathe and dive into the warm Mediterranean water is available to a full path to the headland of the peninsula Enfola (one of the most beautiful viewpoints).
By cycling through the wildest nature of the archipelago, by searching the sites of a Recent History.
The peninsula of Enfola (Elba Island-Tuscan Archipelago) is located to the north-east, is easily accessible from Portoferraio (the main town of the island).
It is one of the most beautiful places to visit in the island.
The isthmus that connects the island is enhanced by the presence of a beautiful pebble beach, where the water is the color of crystal and emerald.
I think it's just for the beauty of the place, that the headquarters of the "Marine Park of the Tuscan Archipelago" is right on this isthmus (in the old arsenal of the Tuna Trap of Enfola).

The TrailThe short trail takes place on one of the most beautiful promontories of the island, Elba joined to the mainland by a narrow isthmus . The lush landscape is broken only by the construction of a military battery of World War II , named : "L. de Filippi".
Our route starts from the car park of the beach of Enfola . We are located on the gravelly isthmus , off just a couple of hundred meters, on which stands the structure of an ancient tuna fishery (home of the Tuscan Archipelago Park ).
Active until the 1950s , testifies to the importance of this island fisheries in the past.
We take the road behind it, slightly uphill and wide turns , passing close to rare villas. A gate, easily overcome (walking and cycling) prevents the passage to vehicles, a sign indicates that it is strictly forbidden to Reenactors perform mock battles on the promontory (apparently someone thinks to be "Rambo" revived).
The ground is clay, but not particularly uncomfortable . The vegetation is low with plenty of mastic trees and especially rosemary , which in spring are covered with bright blue flowers.
As you climb some sections will be shaded by pine trees planted decades ago . In some places the vegetation of the road opens , allowing you to admire beautiful views of the north coast , the characteristics of white cliffs , with Portoferraio in the background. Some of these scenic areas were equipped with wooden benches.
We arrive at a first low building, surrounded in the bush , which is nothing if the tank of the fortress. After passing a bend, we skirt an elegant, spacious building , embedded in the rocky flank : it is the power plant. It 'a sign that we are almost at the highest point of the headland. In fact, after a few meters we reach the typical building that housed the latrines. Here begins the path marked by wooden signs in the national park which is the ring of the mountain ( 135 meters ) .
We continue on the road to visit the rest of the military buildings . In short, we arrive at the entrance of the underground military , in which he was the santa barbara .
The access time is written: "nihil volent impossible", coat of arms surmounted by a beautiful granite . Not far from the entrance to the underground , a short staircase overgrown with scrub allows us to get to the accommodation of the military, now in total decadence. To visit the powder magazine and all the underground rooms is essential to have one (preferably two) torches and a helmet.
At this point take the path from the main entrance of the tunnel , to undertake the ring. We pass under a beautiful pine forest and scrub vegetation to high , which does not allow us to admire the panorama of the coast below. In some places we will find the pitches of shooting, where you can easily recognize the bases that were used to fix the rusty artillery pieces.
After a few hundred meters , a left turn signposted will allow us to go down to the promontory of Enfola . The first section is still under the ilex , but then gives way to a low Mediterranean scrub .
From here we have a beautiful sight on the final stretch of the promontory. Further down the scrub gives way to the steppa.
We are on a rocky stretch in which often the winds are raging , precluding the development of the tree species.
On the promontory there is another military structure , embedded in the rocks. In it was the big reflector ( the curtain ) , used at night to illuminate the sea. It was dislodged from the tip end of a track , traces of which are still discernible today . On the tip was equipped a stopping off point , from which we can enjoy a beautiful panorama : the characteristic rock of the ship , a few tens of meters from the coast , where someone has seen the shape of a boat , a beautiful stretch of coast north island, dominated by the massif of Tabernacles.
At the tip there is a large colony of gulls , particularly real . Perched on the high rocky cliffs , will not fail to report their boisterous presence to report the intrusion. It 's good not to disturb them too much, and even in periods of nesting (March to July) is a good idea not to go to the tip , but respectfully observe from the top: the abandonment of nests, even for a few minutes, can let cool eggs and kill chicks.
Retracing our steps, we finish the ring in a few hundred meters and descend back to the parking.
