With a cast of highly qualified participants will be on stage tomorrow the 93rd edition of the Milan-Turin, the classic bike world's oldest, who returns to fight over four years.
The most important novelty compared to previous editions about the path: after 170 kilometers of plains (the start will be given at 10.45 from Settimo Milanese) riders arrive in town from San Mauro Torinese and in the last 22 kilometers will face twice deadly flight of just over 4 kilometers from Sassi leads to Superga.
The arrival shortly after 15 the square of the Basilica.

A resurrection strongly supported by the CA Arona for three seasons has acquired the rights to organize by RCS Sport. A first coup the organizers have already put check with the participation of Alberto Contador might say in his final five hundred meters to 9.3%.
At the start, in addition to Spanish, there will also be the last winner Danilo Di Luca, Carlos Alberto Betancour, Damiano Cunego, Ivan Basso, Vincenzo Nibali, Moreno Moser, Fredrik Kessiakof, Sylvain Chavanel, Joaquin Rodriguez, Daniel Moreno, John Gadret, Franco Pellizzotti, the Turin Fabio Felline and Domenico Pozzovivo who knows very well having grown up the "ciclisticamente" in the team of Sassi.

History of the Race.

It was May 26, 1876 when eight brave cyclists departed from Milan, riding as many heavy cycles to reach Turin. Thus was born, 136 years ago, the oldest Italian bicycle race. To cut the finish line first in Corso Giulio Cesare, after 150 kilometers in 11 hours, it was Paul Magretti, then 21 students of the University of Milan and later biologist, entomologist and student of Hymenoptera at a time, at the turn of the nineteenth century and twentieth centuries in which still represented a travel adventure. The company Magretti was an isolated case, the cyclist there are no other results in the order of arrival of the time and the only thing certain is the date of death: August 30, 1913.

As for the Milan-Turin does not competed for eighteen years recovering only in 1894, ie in the decade in which they were born almost all the great classics that still survive in the era of cycling contested by 45 km / h. Many stops (even for snow) race whose last edition was held in 2007 with the success of Danilo Di Luca.

Hooray for the CHAMPION

Extraordinary victory of Alberto Contador in the 93rd edition of the Milan-Turin. The Spanish champions came only on the hill of Superga and with the gesture of the gunman, his trademark, accompanied by a broad smile he put the seal on his first victory in the one-day races. The professional cycling once had planted the finish line in front of the basilica. So was the fourth stage of the Tour of 1958 and, coincidentally, won another grandee of Spain, Federico Bahamontes, the Eagle of Toledo.
The decisive action about a mile from the end when Contador, who was in full recovery after attacking the final climb in the third group, has left behind a great Diego Ulissi, then able to beat the Swede Kessiakoff for the place of honor . Especially the young Leghorn showed, in addition to an excellent run of form, a great tactical acumen. The Livorno, in fact, did not try to react immediately at the click of Contador, which probably would have compromised his performance, but he tried to follow with more regular pace. In short, the Milan-Turin finally returned. And perhaps best winner could not find it. The order of arrival is from World.

"I did not know this climb - the arrival Contador said, visibly pleased but exhausted - but they told me it would be a race for me. I waited until about a mile from the finish, then went away. What a beautiful race in Italy, no one in the world has a cheering like yours. People cheered me as if I were an Italian. For me this is very important. "
