OverviewI went on Sunday morning to a part of the Karkonosze range I had only seen by car so far while passing the Okraj pass, east from the top Śnieżka. Half of the circuit was in Poland, half in Czech Republic.
Kowary, trough which I rode on the way to Skalnik couple of years ago, made my starting point. The Lasocki ridge, that was initially planned as a part of June's Karpacz marathon before being canceled by the organizers following a veto from the National park, was said to be a fine area, so it drew my curiosity.
An asphalted road closed to vehicles and running deep in the heart of the Karkonosze range, from Malá Úpa to Spálený Mlýn (starting point of last year's ride) also focused my attention. It turned that this road was built by french prisoners during WW2 according to informative panels !
As a final, I went back to the Polish side via the Jelenka Chata mountain hut, highest elevation of the ride (1263m), before a huge looooong ride down back to Kowary :)
50km and 2200m of elevation done during a wonderful ride, with the autumnal colors I like so much at this time of the year, and perfect weather. Another serious candidate for the ride of the year !
