There is a very short piece of asphalted trail in the Slovak Tatras, which is allowed by bicycle and perhaps worth mention for those seeking shortened approaches to the mountains from the piedmont.

From Starý Smokovec, a beautiful and historical mountain resort located on the southern mountainside, one can reach the mountain hut of Bilíkova chata and pin the bike there. Further up Bilíkova chata (rather a hotel during the ski season), after a portion of trail which allows watching stunning waterfalls (on foot only), we reach a refreshment hut, Rainerova chata, which is indeed only a place where one can eat drink or buy souvenirs.

Rainerova chata is a "hub of trails" located at the entrance of two touristic valleys, the Vel'ka Studena Dolina and the Mala Studena Dolina. Both are leading to breathtaking mountainous sceneries, and their respective upper ends own two of the highest mountain huts of the range, both 2000m high : Zbojnícka chata and Téryho chata. Then a large choice of peaks can be bagged overthere. There is a mass of stunning material about all these places on SP.

I haven't cycled this track but just noticed it while hiking back to the Starý Smokovec bus station. The whole cycling section is barely reaching 4km for 300m of ascent. One lane of the track is shared with funny descending engines like trotinettes or summer bobsleighs, so watch out. Similarly, slower things like pedestrians are also met. There is not much else to say for this bit of track so don't be surprised this page doesn't meet the other Tatras ones in terms of standard...
